Coverage versus response time objectives in ambulance location

چکیده
Abstract Background This paper deals with the location of emergency medical stations where ambulances waiting to be dispatched are parked. The literature reports a lot mathematical programming models used optimize station locations. Most studies evaluate only analytically applying same simplifying assumptions that were in modelling phase. In addition, they concentrate on systems operating one type units homogeneous urban areas. goal our study is identify which optimization criterion service (EMS) outcomes benefit from most and model should design tiered large urban–rural Methods A bi-criteria proposed. criteria include accessibility high-priority patients within short time limit average response all patients. being compared p -median single objective hierarchical pq considers two different vehicle types. detailed computer simulation solutions. methodology verified conditions Slovak Republic using real historical data 149,474 ambulance trips performed 2015. Results All improve EMS performance by relocating some current distribution. best results achieved median-type model. reduced 58 s, number calls responded 15 min increased 5% 8 6%. Conclusions heterogeneous areas designed minimize times, not maximize served given limit.

Ambulance routing in disaster response scenario considering different types of ambulances and semi soft time windows
This paper studies the ambulance routing problem (ARP) in disaster situations when a large number of injured people from various locations require receiving treatments and medical aids. In such circumstances, many people summoning the ambulances but the capacity and number of emergency vehicles are not sufficient to visit all the patients at the same time. Therefore, a pivotal issue is to manag...
متن کاملAssessment of ambulance response time: a study in Tabriz Emergency Medical Center
Background: The emergency medical services system has a vital role in the timely treatment of victims and the reduction of injury and mortality rates. Ambulance response time is an essential variable in evaluating the quality of its services. The aim of this study was to determine the ambulance response time and to compare it according to background variables. Methods: This descriptive study ...
متن کاملAmbulance location and relocation problems with time-dependent travel times
EMERGENCY SERVICE PROVIDERS ARE FACING THE FOLLOWING PROBLEM: how and where to locate vehicles in order to cover potential future demand effectively. Ambulances are supposed to be located at designated locations such that in case of an emergency the patients can be reached in a time-efficient manner. A patient is said to be covered by a vehicle if (s)he can be reached by an ambulance within a p...
متن کاملAmbulance location and relocation models
This article traces the evolution of ambulance location and relocation models proposed over the past 30 years. The models are classified in two main categories. Deterministic models are used at the planning stage and ignore stochastic considerations regarding the availability of ambulances. Probabilistic models reflect the fact that ambulances operate as servers in a queueing system and cannot ...
